Printer-FriendlySuggested script for asking for businesses and small organizations to sign on to a moratorium resolution
"Hello, is the business owner (director) in?"
If no, say: "Thank you, I'll return another time."
If yes, say: "Can I speak to him or her?"
When the business owner (director) arrives, hand him/her the resolution and say:
"My name is____________. I have here a resolution expressing concern over the unjust application of the death penalty. Over 112 innocent persons have been released from our nation's death rows. Many studies show that Capital Punishment is applied most often against the poor, the powerless, members of minority groups, and persons with mental disabilities.
We need to examine our current system to see if inherent problems can be fixed. We should suspend executions and initiate a comprehensive study of these problems.
This resolution expresses support of a moratorium on executions in New York so that issues of fairness can be properly studied and addressed. .
Will you please indicate your support for a moratorium on the death penalty by signing this resolution?"
